PlayStation State of Play June 2026 Recap — Wolverine, God of War, Until Dawn 2, and a Huge Week for PS5
For me, the clear centerpiece was Marvel’s Wolverine. Insomniac showed off a brutal, violent, and action-heavy look at Logan’s upcoming solo adventure, and it finally gave the game the kind of teeth fans have been waiting for. The combat looked aggressive, the tone felt sharp, and seeing characters like Jean Grey and the Reavers only made the game feel bigger. With the game counting down toward its September 15 launch, this felt like the moment where the hype truly became real.
Another huge surprise was God of War Laufey, a new chapter focused on Faye. Instead of simply moving forward with Kratos or Atreus, Santa Monica Studio seems to be digging into the mythology, grief, love, and legacy that shaped the Norse saga from the beginning. A Faye-centered story has the potential to be emotional, mythic, and deeply personal exactly the kind of thing this franchise does best.
The horror side of the show was also stacked. Until Dawn 2 was officially announced, bringing back the choice-driven nightmare format with a new cast, a new location, and a fresh mystery. Silent Hill: Townfall also received a September 24 release date and a new look at its disturbing atmosphere. Then there was ILL, which brought grotesque first-person horror energy with realistic physics, dismemberment, and pure nightmare fuel.
PlayStation also gave fans plenty of action and adventure. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is set for February 12, bringing Lara Croft back with rebuilt iconic locations and classic adventure energy. Onimusha: Way of the Sword launches September 25, with a demo available now. Phantom Blade Zero is getting its own dedicated State of Play later this summer ahead of its October 29 launch. Ace Combat 8, Control Resonant, Dune: Awakening, Rayman Legends Retold, Kemuri, The Lost Wild, and more helped round out a very busy lineup.
Overall, this was a strong State of Play because it had range. It had superhero action, mythology, horror, nostalgia, Japanese action, survival games, platforming, and major release dates. PlayStation needed a big summer moment, and this show delivered one.
For me, this was also the kind of state of play that reminds me why gaming coverage is so exciting. One minute, we are watching Logan slice through enemies; the next, we are watching horror return in full force; and then, suddenly, Lara Croft, Faye, Rayman, and Onimusha are all back in the conversation.
June 2026 is already becoming one of the most exciting gaming months of the year, and State of Play was only the beginning.
