Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Review: A Standalone Return I Highly Recommend

I Highly Recommend Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2; here is my full review.

After absolutely loving the first season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, I was excited to see another story set in this world. Now that I have watched Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, I am happy to say I absolutely enjoyed it. It is a fun standalone return to Cyberpunk, with great music, memorable characters, and plenty of reasons to keep looking forward to this series.
The original Edgerunners left a huge impression on me. Going into this second installment, the appeal was the chance to spend time with a different cast and see another side of a world I already love. Edgerunners 2 gave me that experience, and I had a great time with it.
A new story in a world worth revisiting
The standalone approach works well here. Night City is a setting with room for so many different people, perspectives, and stories. Exploring it through another cast gives this installment its own identity while keeping that connection to the wider Cyberpunk universe.
As someone who loves Cyberpunk as a whole, that is a big part of why this series appeals to me. There is always the possibility of discovering another character to care about or another story that makes the world feel bigger. Edgerunners 2 gave me another reason to enjoy spending time in it.
I also appreciated being able to take this season on its own terms. I loved the first installment, and I enjoyed this one as another story with its own characters to get invested in. That makes the anthology-style direction exciting to me, especially when I think about where the series could go next.
Roman and the new cast
The characters were one of my favorite parts of Edgerunners 2, and Roman was a particular standout. I thought he was amazing. He is one of the characters I came away especially wanting to mention when putting this review together.
I enjoyed the wider cast, too. I am keeping their stories and individual moments out of this review because I would rather people discover those for themselves. What I can say is that I loved spending time with these characters, and they helped make the season such an enjoyable experience.
Great music and an entertaining return
The music was another major highlight for me. It gave the season energy and atmosphere, and it was a big part of what I enjoyed about watching it. Music is such an important part of the Cyberpunk experience, so I was really happy with that side of Edgerunners 2.
Taken together, the characters, music, and standalone story made this a really fun return. My reaction is straightforward: I absolutely loved it. If you enjoy Cyberpunk 2077, the original Edgerunners, or the wider Cyberpunk world, I highly recommend giving this installment a chance.
More Cyberpunk to look forward to with EDGERUNNERS II - Update 2.5 with CYBERPUNK 2077 + Console Mod Support! Live from October 22, 2026.
As I put this review together, CD PROJEKT RED has also announced the Edgerunners 2 Update, known as Update 2.5, for Cyberpunk 2077. It is scheduled to arrive on October 22, and I am excited to play it. Coming away from the anime with another reason to return to the game makes this a particularly enjoyable time to be a Cyberpunk fan.
Looking further ahead, I really hope we see Edgerunners 3, and potentially Edgerunners 4. I can easily imagine more standalone stories being told in this universe. Those are my hopes for the series, and this second installment has strengthened my interest in seeing it continue.
I would also love to see characters from either Edgerunners installment appear in a future Cyberpunk game. I would especially love to see Lucy one day. The possibility of connections with a future Cyberpunk 2077 sequel is exciting, even though those particular appearances are simply something I would like to happen.
My verdict
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 was a really enjoyable standalone story, and I absolutely loved it. Roman was a standout, the music was great, and the cast gave me another group of characters to enjoy in this world.
I am leaving this review unscored. My verdict is Highly Recommended, especially for fans of Cyberpunk 2077, Edgerunners, and the wider franchise. Give this second installment a chance. I am glad I did, and I would love to see much more from the series.
